While travelling through one of my favourite parts of Japan, I asked the local information centre whether they could recommend a local restaurant that could cater for a group of eight and cater for vegans. The lady that assisted me was very helpful, and called ahead to be sure the restaurant could accommodate us and our needs. Finding vegan food in Japan is not always easy, despite the multitude of vegan foods.. often, vegetable dishes use fish stock.

As I thanked the lady for her help and began to walk away, I remembered that I had a few postcards of my art in my backpack. I wanted to give her a gift for being so very pleasant and helpful, and so asked her to accept a postcard each of Pine from my Heart, and Emu-moo.

Hours later, after enjoying the meal, I happened to return to the train station and back past the information centre. As we walked past, a friend pointed something out to me: sitting on the shelf in the information centre, alongside the local mascot and local crafts, were my two postcards. I was breathless!

Aizu-Wakamatsu, place of my heart.
